Dr. Jake Hare grew up in Point Loma, and began his veterinary career here at Shelter Island Veterinary Hospital in 2004. Dr. Hare started out working for Dr. Darnell as a kennel assistant. In the meantime, he attended t Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo, where he earned degrees in biology, and modern languages & literatures. He then began his graduate program at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. He specialized in companion animal medicine, but also thoroughly enjoyed his externship at the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston, MA. Dr. Hare graduated in 2015.
Dr Hare's special interests in veterinary medicine include surgery and neurology. He works with Dr. Darnell to support the Feral Cat Coalition and The Rescue House in their mission to support the health of San Diego County's feral and homeless cats.
When outside the hospital, Dr Hare enjoys the beach, Ultimate Frisbee, and daydreaming.
