Jennifer Johnson - Lead Receptionist. Jennifer has been working in the veterinary field since 1997. Her dedication to animal care began as a kennel attendant and progressed to working as a veterinary nurse, and now a client services representative. She obtained her BA in Applied Design in 2009, which is a degree in the handmade and three-dimensional arts. When she is not spending her time caring for Shelter Island Veterinary Hospital's clients, she loves making jewelry, designing furniture, oil painting and gardening. She has a little terrier mix named Linus who is her loyal companion and best friend.
Glory Baquiran - Lead Veterinary Nurse. She will assist you with checking your pet in for his/her procedure, reviewing the forms required for surgery or dental cleanings, and answer all your questions. She understands that all procedures, no matter how routine they are to US are not routine TO YOU! She will care for your pet from the time he/she arrives until the time they are safely by your side again, ensuring that every step of the way, their needs are being addressed. Glory works side-by-side with our doctors in the treatment area performing examinations, diagnostic testing, dentistry, surgery and other procedures. Glory has 2 chihuahuas named Max and Jordan.
Katie Currie - Veterinary Nurse. Katie joined us in February 2012. Katie comes to us with 10 years of experience caring for pets. Katie is a San Diego Native. Her passion is caring for animals and educating clients on how to help their pets to live long, happy, healthy lives. Enthusiastic, and always smiling - she is sure to make your pet's visit to the vet as comfortable as possible. Katie's goal is to become a registered veterinary technician. Katie enjoys sunsets at the beach and bicycling. Katie currently has no pets of her own - but we are working on that.
Julio Hernandez - Veterinary Assistant. Julio's job is to ensure the comfort of our clients and pets whether they spend an hour or a day with us. Julio came to Shelter Island Veterinary Hospital after graduating from PIMA Medical Institute in February 2012 with a certificate in Veterinary Assisting. Julio is continuing his education through a distance learning program with the goal of becoming a registered veterinary technician. Julio's special interest is in veterinary surgical assisting. His past experience includes volunteer work at the Chula Vista Animal Shelter and at another local veterinary office. Julio has a dog named Medusa and a hamster named Cookie.
Tori Rice - Assistant Office Manager. At Shelter Island Veterinary Hospital since February 2011, Tori is no stranger to SIVH, having been a long-time client of the clinic since 2005. She juggles multiple projects. She has one dog (Tigre or "Le Tigre"), and one cat named Uncle Tupelo, as well as a Bearded Dragon (Lucy) and a goldfish (Nemo, of course). An Indiana native, she traded the chilly Midwest winters for blazing hot summers, and achieved her MFA in Playwrighting from Arizona State University. After graduation from the university, she headed further west to California where she met her husband, Ron. She now devotes her home time to playing pretend with the joy of her life, her 5-year-old daughter, Sadie.
